About Us

Our aim is to support Brown's education and research mission while ensuring humane care of animals.

The Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE) ensures humane care by providing for the animals' daily care and housing and veterinary care when necessary. The CARE team is dedicated to supporting the education and research mission of Brown University, while maintaining compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations, guidelines and policies.

Until further notice, the CARE Office will have limited administrative staffing due to the precautionary measures taken by the University re: COVID-19.  Please contact us using our department email account CARE@Brown.edu or calling 401-863-3223.

CARE emergency contact information is posted on the inside of all animal housing room doors.  Please refer to our People webpage for Veterinary and Operations On-Call Schedules during Winter Break.

Standard drop-off and pick-up hours are on Wednesdays 10am to noon at our main campus facilty.

Mission Statement

Foremost, we are committed to providing healthy, well-cared-for animals, which are essential to meaningful research, and maintaining the animal facility for their daily care.

Veterinary Responsibilities

The veterinarians are directly responsible for the care and use of animals at all Brown University facilities and provide veterinary services to the area hospitals affiliated with The Warren Alpert  Medical School. They directly support researchers and students,  and as veterinary members of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), they review all animal care and use protocols.
